Highlights of Malta & Sicily
Arrival transfer from airport to your hotel.
Half day tour of Valletta. See the Barracca Gardens with its breathtaking view of the Grand Harbour, St. John’s Co-Cathedral with its Caravaggio painting, and the Grand Masters Palace. End with the Malta Experience multi-vision show that depicts the country’s history. (B)
Full day tour includes a visit to the citadel of Mdina. Navigate the narrow streets and get an almost 360° panoramic view of the island. Stop at the catacombs before proceeding to the Dingli Cliffs. Visit the San Anton Gardens and the Mosta Church with its impressive dome, one of the largest standing, unsupported domes in Europe. End the day at the crafts centre of Ta’ Qali. (B,L)
Half day tour of the historical area begins with a drive past Cospicua to Vittoriosa. Discover on foot the old, narrow streets and buildings. Take a ‘fregatina’ for a tour of the famous harbour creeks. End the morning in Senglea with its beautiful watchtower in the centre of the harbour. (B)
Travel to the island of Gozo. Tour around the Megalithic temples of Ggantija, the Citadel in Victoria and the rocky cliffs in Xlendi Bay. Free time for shopping in the local markets. Return to Malta. (B,L)
Make your own way to the cruise departure point. Board your cruise for a full day in the Blue Lagoon at the island of Comino. Cruise past Sliema, St. Julians, St. Pauls Bay, and Mellieha. Rest of the day is at leisure on the island. Lunch is included. There is an open bar on board with drinks also included (except spirits). (B,L)
Early morning transfer to the port to board the hydrofoil to Pozzallo on the island of Sicily. On arrival, transfer by bus (provided by ferry company) to Catania. Transfer to your tour hotel. (D)
Depart for the Greek colony of Siracusa. Visit the archaeological area including the Latomia del Paradiso and the Ear of Dionysus. Visit the island of Ortigia, the historical centre of the city. Visit the Cathedral and Arethusa Fountain. Continue to Ragusa and visit the enchanting historical centre with its baroque palaces and churches. Enjoy a tasting of typical Sicilian products. (B,D)
Depart for Caltagirone, famous for Sicilian ceramics and pottery. An opportunity for some shopping before proceeding to Piazza Armerina to visit the Villa Romana del Casale. Continue to Agrigento and visit the Valley of the Temples. (B,L,D)
Time at leisure in Palermo before travelling to Monreale. Visit the Cathedral with its mosaics and Moorish architecture. Return to Palermo and visit the historical centre including the Cathedral, the Palatine Chapel, and the Norman Palace. (B,D)
Depart for Segesta to admire the Temple and the Theatre surrounded by a suggestive landscape. Continue to the medieval village of Erice, located on the top of a hill overlooking the city of Trapani and the Egadi Islands. Walk in its tiny and characteristic streets. Travel to the Trapani area for a panoramic tour of the salt windmills and basins. Return to Palermo. (B,D)
Depart for Cefalu, a former fishing village, now a charming coastal town. Walk to the city centre to reach the Arab-Norman Cathedral and the medieval wash-house built in the rock. Drive to Parco dei Nebrodi and stop at the Miraglia Forest for lunch. Continue past Cesaro and Randazzo and visit Etna Park from the north facing side. Proceed to Taormina. (B,L,D)
Day at leisure in the small medieval village of Taormina. Weather permitting, there is an optional tour to Mt. Etna. (B,D)
After breakfast, end of services. (B)
