A vibrant and colourful city that combines both modern with historical. Lisbon is the wealthiest city in Portugal and is famous for its gothic cathedrals, magnificent monuments and quaint museums. This city has a superb natural setting spread across seven hills and clings to the river banks of the Tagus Estuary. One of the main attractions when visiting Lisbon is the Castle of St George which is perched on the highest of Lisbon's seven hills. This site was once occupied by Romans and Moors it was also the royal residence until the late 15th century. Offers a fantastic panoramic view. The Torre de Belem 'Belem Tower' is one of the cities most famous sights which is more impressive on the outside then the inside. This was constructed back in the 16th century to defend the river. The tower leads to a museum.
CLIMATE:
Lisbon has a subtropical meditteranean climate with warm winters averaging 15 degrees during the day and about 8 degrees during the night this is from December through until February. Summers last an average of about 6 months generally from May through until October approx 20 degrees or higher.
